Smartcool Systems is an innovator in reducing energy consumption in refrigeration and air conditioning systems. When we met with the Global Executive Vice President, Steven Martin, in December 2010 to discuss IT support it quickly emerged that an in-depth analysis of their current system was required to establish a way ahead.
Smartcool had just gone through a merger of their European and North American businesses and their systems were suffering from poor performance in some areas and needed consolidating in others.
After a selection process Vermont were chosen to carry out the analysis of their system, which was followed up with system improvements and changes to the system (installation of a new Microsoft Exchange Server which has been Virtualised using Microsoft’s Hyper-V). All of which has led to an improved performance of the system. Recently Vermont has installed two further virtual servers – Microsoft Sharepoint and Microsoft Navision – on the original Exchange Host Server.
Going forward Vermont now manage and monitor (24/7) their entire systems – in the UK and in Vancouver –, and provide quarterly Service Reviews to give advice and guidance on their IT strategy. With their Vancouver systems due for replacement within the next 12 months Vermont and Smartcool are in the midst of planning and budgeting for the new environment.
