Amazon has hit the news several times in recent months with its drone delivery programme. The latest is that it has filed a patent to allow a delivery drone to parachute the package to your door step to avoid challenges with landing the drone itself safely. Sounds crazy right?
Maybe so. Most news reports describe Amazon’s plans as “bizarre” at best, but more commonly “crazy”, “impractical” or “dangerous”.
They might be right. But I was struck by the constant negativity. All of a sudden every journalist knows more than Jeff Bazos (founder and CEO of Amazon). Who made them an expert in online shopping?
Amazon have built their success on innovation over 20 years – driven by the constant focus of its founder Jeff Bezos. His mantra is “start with the customer and work back from there”. Then they figure out how to do it – often by harnessing technology in totally new ways that have never been done before.
It’s not just Jeff Bezos and Amazon. Without an innovative, entrepreneurial spirit, nothing would ever get better, faster, cheaper. The great things in the world would never have been started, let alone finished. Would your business ever have started?

- Are you using technology to help you deliver the results? Bezos is not a techy. But he knows the power of technology and has surrounded himself with people that can help him bring his ideas to life.
